Wyedean is hugely proud of its deep roots in Haworth, and in addition to supporting the local community by employing many people from the village, it also supports various local charitable causes. From the Haworth 1940s weekend to Oxenhope Straw Race and more recently Haworth Primary School.
Wyedean’s Managing Director, Robin Wright took great delight, this week, in visiting Haworth Primary School, to see first-hand, the positive impact an interactive learning aid that Wyedean donated has had on the pupils there.
The school was recently inspected by Ofsted, the results of which concluded that it was outstanding in two categories and good in three others. But in order to maintain this level of excellence – which is a particular challenge given the current economic climate, and government cuts – the school has reached out to local businesses with a project called ‘The Business Friends of Haworth Primary School’. This project sees the school attempting to gain financial support from local businesses to help promote and improve the school’s facilities.
The project features numerous proposals of varying degrees of size and complexity, which will be undertaken over the coming years. For instance, one such proposal is that Haworth Primary School wishes to update its play and sports equipment. It wants to ensure its pupils are using only quality educational toys and equipment to promote learning.
The second requirement, and one that Wyedean helped realise, relates to the use and importance of interactive learning aids. Research has shown that pupils learn better when able to use their hands – adding interactivity helps greatly with understanding and comprehension. With this in mind, and with the school’s existing equipment, broken or obsolete, Wyedean donated a new interactive smart board to help with the children’s learning.
The final and largest proposal is that Haworth Primary School hopes to build an Eco Classroom in the school grounds. The environment in which the students learn has a significant impact on the quality of their learning. The school aims to develop a strong environmental ethos in its children and focusing on providing a quality environment is central to this.

Wyedean is delighted with the overwhelming positive responses it received from the children and encourages other local business to support this worthy cause.
