One of the Keighley Sea Cadets’ main fundraising events is the annual duck race which is held at Bolton Abbey as its President is the Duke of Devonshire. The day features stalls, a tombola, lucky dips and raffle ticket selling. At 3pm the race begins and 2,000 yellow ducks are launched from the Cavendish Pavilion Bridge. The ducks race for approximately 300 metres down the river and the leading duck, retrieved by a Cadet, is announced as the winner and is followed by the 2nd and 3rd placed runners up. All of the cadets are then tasked with retrieving the remaining ducks from the water. Winners will be contacted via telephone and a cheque for the winning amount will be forwarded to them.
Keighley SCC are appealing for volunteers to help make a difference to Keighley’s next generation. Whether you are ex-forces and want to pass on your skills and inspire the cadets, or if you are interested in water sports or adventure activities or would like to make new friends and develop your own personal skills then they’re keen to hear from you. Alternatively, you may want to help them redecorate and maintain the unit, or have business skills and fundraising skills that could help their management team.
